How to Stay Comfortable While Traveling
Planning a trip soon? Whether you're driving to Grandma's house or you're flying overseas, travel requires planning, especially when you're venturing on long journeys.
Staying comfortable on these trips may seem easier said than done, but if you keep the following tips in mind, you can make the adventure much more manageable.
1. Stretch Before, During and After
There are a variety of benefits that come from stretching while traveling. Not only can movements keep the blood flowing through your limbs while you're stuck in a stationary position, but it can help alleviate symptoms of jet lag. Before you get on a flight, spend 10 to 15 minutes stretching your arms, legs and back.
If you're flying for more than five hours, your body will be aching to move as the time ticks on. Walk throughout the cabin every two to three hours, and don't feel embarrassed to stretch in the aisles - you won't be the only one. During long car trips, make a point to do a few simple stretches each time you pull over for a rest stop. Sitting for hours on end can be exhausting, especially if you're driving. Stretching can get the heart pumping and blood flowing, both of which are important for keeping your driver awake.
When your journey is over, do a few simple stretches to wind down - this is the ideal time for yoga or light movements.

2. Use a Seat Cushion for Long Journeys
If you're traveling for several hours, you're going to want to sit on a comfortable surface. Invest in a seat cushion that you can carry on the plane or in the car with you. These are especially helpful if you're traveling in cold conditions, as heated inserts can keep you warm from the bottom up.
3. Get a Neck Pillow if You Plan to Nap
Using a cushioned neck pillow is a great way to keep the area straight and comforted during extended trips. If you plan on napping while traveling, a neck cushion becomes a necessity, as it can prevent your neck from moving to an uncomfortable position while you're unconscious.
4. Cover Your Eyes and Ears
If napping is on your to-do list while you're traveling, you may want to pick up an eye mask and noise-cancelling headphones. These are ideal for people traveling by plane or train, as they allow the listener to hear soothing sounds or tunes instead of the hustle and bustle of the surrounding environment.
