When a cat enters the protected zone, the Sunbeam® Sensor Egg Automatic Cat Deterrent detects its presence and emits a burst of air. The sound that it creates startles the cat and natural instincts take over and causes the cat to leave the area.

Extremely inefficientThe biggest flaw with this sensor egg is the initial spray that blasts every time you turn it on. 10 seconds after you press the power button, it shoots an unnecessary burst of air that wastes the supply in the canister and confuses the cat. So if you turn it on twice a day, before leaving for work and going to bed, you're wasting 14 sprays a week that serves absolutely no purpose but to deplete the can and force you to buy a new one (it sprays like this regardless of where it's placed, even if you cover up the sensor). I would estimate that over 80% of the air in the canister was used on this initial warning spray.

Lots of waste, poor designMy cats were terrified and I was dancing in victory for about two weeks. But upon installing the 3rd can, the cheap seal that the air can sits in broke and would not hold the seal. Having dealt frequently with compressed CO2 during my paintball years, I could tell that the seal was not designed to last. It was about as strong as a balloon. I'm still trying to find a replacement seal but not having much luck.
Also, as someone else mentioned, the open and fold design and the way the can screws in is very poor and awkward to install. You have to be quick or you waste a lot of air.

Overpriced, fires warning shotI used to have a Ssscat, so I know this method works- but I kind of abandoned it when refills stopped being available in stores. I have winced moved, and my cat is driving me crazy by jumping on my dresser at night. I saw this at a store and got it, despite being WAY overpriced. I set it up, excited for a peaceful night of sleep, and to my surprise- about 15 seconds after turning it on, and with NO motion present, it went off. Scared the heck out of the cat. Figured it was a fluke, but the next night it did the same thing- now the cat is associating the sound with me! Tried it again in a very controlled environment just to be sure, and it fired with no motion. Packing it up, returning it, and getting Ssscat on Amazon for half the price.

Petsmart NEVER has the refills!!!I purchased one, it comes with the cartridge. Works great so I purchased another one. Problem is Pets Mart exclusive and they NEVER have the refills in stock. I have to call and have them hold the 1 (never have they had 2)and then run down there to pick up. If I am in the area and stop by they are out of stock and when I call they are usually out of stock. BIG problem since this is the only place you can purchase the refills. I complained to the manger twice now and was assured since this is a new product that this problem would not continue. Two months later, furniture is scratched up and they are still out of refills. Sunbeam can you help! I do not have the extra money to order a case as was suggested or order on line, pay the same price as in the store plus shipping!!

Love this product! The first one I bought was defective and drained the can of air as soon as I loaded it. So I returned it to the store and got another one and it works great! We adopted 2 adult cats from a shelter but made the decision when we got them not to let them sleep in our bedroom. The first few months every morning when the alarm went off they would scratch and meow at the door. But soon it became earlier and earlier until they were waking us up at 4:00am. My husband was ready to send them back! We tried double sided tape on the door and barricades but nothing worked until we found this product. It has worked beautifully since the day we got it. The cats have learned not to sit outside our door anymore, they don't even make a peep until I come out and turn it off. I highly recommend it!

Worked in one day!Love this product! My cat will not jump on the table since the day we bought this. I don't even have to turn it on anymore. The sound petrified him and once he realized it happened when he jumped on the table, that was it. It took one day. I did not give it five stars because I don't like how it goes off automatically after you turn it on. It is a waste of air. The replacement cans are also hard to get but since I really no longer need to turn it on (the presence of it is enough for our cat), I have not had to order the replacement cans. The product does what it said it would. My dining room table is cat free thanks to the Sensor Egg.

It's the best I've found so far!We have trouble with our cats voiding in the living room. We bought the canister and the cats have stayed out of it...until the canister empties. It works great when it is full. We have found the same issue with the can losing air when you place it in the egg but found we need to make sure the can hasn't been shaken in any way before we put it in the egg for it to not release air. Also, I feel as if we need to replace the canister about once a week which can be very expensive. We will continue to purchase this though until someone comes out with a better product. It is worth it to keep the cats out of the living room.

Works perfectly--What is with all these n reviews?Bought it very dubiously but was desperately trying to keep cats out of bedroom. Worked like a charm; after a few days the cats avoided the bedroom door altogether and gave me indignant looks. Emits a hiss and stream of cold air, which I rarely hear unless I am the cause--the cats now avoid my bedroom. Shockingly successful. Try this thing if you are trying to keep a cat away from something--bedroom, house plant, sofa, Christmas tree, etc. I've already recommended this to several people. Seems like it would be a failure. It's not. It's great.
