QuestionAnswer
Why use a humidifier? Humidifiers provide relief from dry indoor air, which causes sore throats, dry skin, and nose bleeds. The moisture they add also helps prevent furniture, paint and hardwood floors from cracking, wallpaper from peeling and reduces static electricity. Humidifiers also provide a healthy growing environment for plant life and can also alleviate those symptoms that are associated with the common cold or flu
Will I notice a difference? It will only take a few hours for your humidifier to replace the lost humidity. You will notice the rapid relief from dry air symptoms and it will increase your comfort.
What are the different types of humidifiers? 1. Cool Mist Humidifiers. Available in three types: Impeller: An impeller humidifier has a rotating disc, which breaks the water into fine droplets that float into the air. It does not require a filter and produces cool mist of moisture. Evaporative: The most commonly used, evaporative humidifiers produce a cool invisible mist with the use of a cotton fibre filter called a wick. A fan forces dry air through the moist wick filter where minerals, sediment and impurities are collected before the moisture is released into the air. Ultrasonic: Produces moisture you can see and feel, and is very quiet. Water flows from the tank over a transducer and is turned into a cool visible mist. 2. Warm Mist Humidifiers Warm mist humidifiers produce warm, soothing moisture by boiling water to create vapour. Through the boiling process most of the impurities in the water are removed, leaving only pure, clean vapour to be released into the air. Warm mist humidifiers allow for the use of inhalant and mentholatum medications for added relief from cold, cough and flu congestion.
Which is better, Cool or Warm Mist? It is really a matter of preference. Both types are equally effective. The key difference is that warm mist humidifiers add warmth to a cold, chilly room and allow for the use of inhalants. Cool mist humidifiers offer a cool, refreshing contrast from stuffy indoor air and ultrasonic humidifiers allow you to see the mist.
How much humidity should I have in my home? A humidity level between 40 and 50 percent is recommended.
What is capacity? The amount of water that the humidifier tank holds.
What is output? The amount of moisture the humidifier puts into your air.
How long do filters/wicks last?"Replacement time is largely dependent on how hard the water is and how often the unit is used. A filter indicator is available on some units letting you know when it is time to replace the wick."
Troubleshooting Questions "
How do I clean brown residue out of my unit? Soft abrasives are recommended for cleaning the brown residue out of the humidifier.
How long does the reservoir glow in the dark? The humidifiers with the Glow in the Dark reservoirs will glow for 1 to 2 hours.
At what water level will the indicator signal that the water level is low? The indicator will be near the "empty" mark when the water level in the tank is at or below the half-full point.
Where can I buy filters? You can purchase filters over the phone by calling (800) 435-1250.
What is the difference between a Vaporizer and a Humidifier? A vaporizer adds water to the air, which helps clear sinus passages. A humidifier adds moister to dry air to help protect your skin and reduce static electricity in the air.
What is the running time of my humidifier? Running times may differ from unit to unit. On average, most units are designed to operate for 8 to 18 hours with one filling.
What are the charcoal filters for on the Evaporative Humidifier? The filters are designed to remove particles, such as airborne dirt and dust, and to help provide cleaner humidified air.
When does the refill light come on for the Evaporative Humidifier (model #1115)? The light will illuminate if the unit runs out of water. If the light illuminates with water still in the unit, try the following: Unplug the humidifier and take off the motor housing. Look for a plastic bobber inside. Wiggle it because it may be a little tight. Put the motor housing back on and turn the unit on.
How often should I clean my humidifier? Cleaning times for humidifiers vary: When used continuously, clean after 48 to 72 hours of operation. When used occasionally, drain, rinse and dry thoroughly after every use. Clean periodically to remove mineral deposits. Always clean before and after long periods of storage.
Why isn't my humidifier producing mist even though the water tank is full? Here are a few possible causes: Unit is not on a level surface. There are mineral deposits on nebulizer or sensor. Water tank had been washed with a detergent.
What should I do if the unit does not produce air or mist? If your humidifier does not produce air or mist, check if the tank has water in it.
What should I do if my humidifier produces inadequate mist? To eliminate this problem, do the following: Make sure that there are no "teeth" missing from the screen under the motor head assembly. Verify that the reservoir is not overfilled. Be sure that the impeller tip is not blocked.
What should I do if my humidifier makes a popping noise? Try tapping the end of the water pump approximately 3/4 of an inch up to the motor cover to eliminate the popping noise.
What should I do if my humidifier is spitting liquid or if the moisture output is excessive? To eliminate this problem, try the following: If the room's relative humidity is more than 60%, turn off the humidifier and ventilate the room. If any liquid medicine or inhalant had been added to water, clean humidifier thoroughly according to its instructions.
What should I do if the unit does not get power? Make sure the unit is plugged into a live 120V AC outlet. Check that the outlet is working properly by testing it with a lamp or other electric appliance. If the problem persists, check your warranty information for product return directions or call Customer Service at (800) 435-1250.
What should I do if there is White Dust Accumulation? The tap water you use might be hard or high in minerals. We recommend that you use distilled water or a combination of half distilled and half tap water.
My Nebulizer is not working. What should I do? Try the following: Turn mist output nozzle to allow for more mist. Place unit on a level surface. Clean nebulizer and sensor with the provided brush and refill with distilled water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
What should I do if my humidifier produces no steam, and the power indicator light is not lit? Do the following: Check if the plug is connected to a live 120V AC outlet. Check if there is water in the chamber underneath the tank. Check if the unit is positioned on a flat surface and if the tip-over switch is activated. The power light will not be on if the tip-over switch is not activated.
