Bake Your Sweetheart a Sweet Loaf for Valentine's Day

There's nothing quite like the aroma of homemade bread baking and an artisan-style loaf that is soft on the inside and perfectly crusted on the outside can not only make your mouth water but it can satisfy your loved one's stomach as well.

Sometimes a simple, homemade gift shows your love more than anything else. When you take the time and care to bake something special, your loved one can truly appreciate it. This Valentine's Day, give your loved one the amazingly delicious taste of a different kind of sweet with the Sunbeam® Programmable Bread Maker. Here are two recipes that will make them fall for you all over again!

Chock Full o' Chocolate Walnut-Zucchini Bread
Packed with flavor, this wholesome bread recipe will be a real treat for that special someone in your life.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 3 large eggs, beaten lightly
  • 1/3 cup canola or vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 1/2 cups zucchini, shredded.

Directions

  1. Combine the chocolate pieces and chopped walnuts in a small bowl and toss with 2 tablespoons of the flour. Set aside.
  2. Using nonstick cooking spray, cover your bread pan and kneading blade. Attach the kneading blade to the bread pan.
  3. In the following order place ingredients into your bread pan: eggs, oil, remaining flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, cinnamon, orange zest, salt and allspice. Then add the shredded zucchini as well as the walnut and chocolate mixture.
  4. Insert the bread pan carefully into your bread maker and close the lid gently.
  5. Select the "Quick Bread" program and press "start".
  6. Once the baking cycle has finished, press the "stop" button.
  7. Using oven mitts, carefully pull the bread pan out of the bread maker.
  8. Use a nonstick spatula to gently loosen the bread from the pan before removing.
  9. Allow bread to cool for 20 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!

Classic French Bread
The recipe for this classic French loaf is easy to follow, but the best part is that using your programmable bread maker gives you the freedom to choose your desired crust color.

Ingredients (for a 2-pound loaf):

  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons butter or margarine, softened
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 5 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 teaspoons bread machine yeast.

Directions

  1. Attach the kneading blade to the bread pan.
  2. In the following order, place the ingredients in your bread pan: water, butter, bread flour, sugar and then salt.
  3. Using your finger, make a small indentation on one side of the flour. Add the bread yeast to the indentation, ensuring that it does not come in contact with any of the liquid ingredients.
  4. Insert the bread pan into your bread maker carefully and close the lid.
  5. Press the "Menu" button until the "Quick Bread" option appears.
  6. Select your desired crust color via the "Color" button.
  7. Finally, select the desired loaf size and hit "start".
  8. Once the baking cycle has finished, press the "stop" button.
  9. Using oven mitts, carefully pull the bread pan out of the bread maker.
  10. Use a nonstick spatula to gently loosen the bread from the pan before removing.
  11. Allow bread to cool for 20 minutes before slicing. Enjoy with your Valentine!
